International Women’s Week, Barcelona, Spain

So, I put together this event with Phamie whom I met on one of the rare evenings that I left my bike at home and decided to walk. She was playing in the street.

That’s a custom-built, one-of-a-kind harp she’s playing. She’s sponsored by Camac Harps, France.
She plays on this corner, which is a famous and coveted spot occupied by other musicians, among them her boyfriend - a guitarist from Costa Rica - (that’s him in the picture). It’s actually Alvaro’s time slot that Phamie plays in. He shares the time with her, and also schleps her harp! She’s grateful for both, and tells me there aren’t very many women playing the streets in Barcelona and that the street-playing politics are challenging.

I’ve also heard a noteworthy tenor singing in that spot.
‘Caj Chai’ is a tea house just around the corner. It’s owned and operated by a couple, she from Prague, and he a Spanish New Yorker. They do serve a good chai, and Antonio’s is by far the best!
The open mic is an informal affair. Totally acoustic. The poets will sit - or stand - on the tea bar.
I will do an assortment of poems, Phamie will play a few pieces, and hopefully we’ll also receive an audience with eager and high-quality participants.
