This is the obituary we ran in the newspaper:
BOSTON, Henry On June 12, 2006 at Mt. St. Mary Hospital, Henry, dearly loved husband of June, father of Stephen, Tom (Ellen) and Alison, and grandfather to Nicholas, Christopher, Katharine and Sonja. Henry is also survived by brothers George (NZ) and David (UK), and dear friends Dorothy, Mary Lou and Jan. Predeceased by sisters and brothers Mary, Ruth, Frank and John. Henry, the youngest of seven children, was born in Blundell Sands, Lancashire on November 14th, 1917 to Herbert Boston and Helen (nee Walker). Henry Boston was educated at The Priory & Bromsgrove, then studied theology at Kings College, London and Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. In 1942 Henry was ordained as Deacon in the Anglican Church at Rochester Cathedral, Kent. In 1943 ordained Priest. Henry served as curate at St. Alban’s, Dartford, Kent for two years and then as Chaplain to the Armed Forces serving in Palestine. In 1949 he married June (nee Luckhurst), and before emigrating to Canada in October 1955 with their three children, he served in Woolwich, SE London and Horton-Bank-Top, Yorkshire. After three years with the Anglican Church in Valcartier, Quebec, Henry left the Anglican Church to join the United Church of Canada. His pastoral charges for the UC were in Williamstown, Ontario; La Have, Nova Scotia; Plaster Rock, N.B.; Elderbank, N.S; Loggieville, N.B.; and Newboro, Ontario. Henry and June retired to Victoria in 1985. Henry spent two happy years as P/T Retired Supply minister at Bamfield United Church. The founder of the BC Anti-Prohibition League, Henry seved as President of this organization for many years. In 1997 his service with this organization was honoured by Lt. Gov. Gardy Gardom who presented him with the Vancouver Island Human Rights Award. Grateful thanks to the staff at Beckley Farm Lodge where Henry spent two happy years before transferring to Mt. St. Mary’s to whom we also give thanks for their exceptional care. His final days were peaceful. Memorial Service Friday, June 16, 7:00pm at McCall Bros. Quadra and Johnson. Donations in Henry’s memory may be sent to Beckley Farm Lodge or the BC AntiProb League, HSBC Bank, Fort St., Victoria, BC.
