Freedom, Independence and Choice
Another of my entires from Rebecca Fine’s forum.
Hi there Lesly
Thanks for writing such in depth reply to my response!
You say:
quote:
Now as for what do I want, I want some money to fix my car and gain the feeling of freedom and independence again. I don’t believe anybody is after money for money’s sake, we all have use for it and need it,I was using Phil’s quote as an example. However I still find it very difficult to feel freedom and independence, when I don’t yet have it.
If it is simply a state of mind we need to change, why are we “asking” for anything. I ask you HOW can I feel freedom and independence if I do not have it? Do I just change my mind about it? Do I say ok I am happy without freedom and independence and get over it?Okay, so for you - getting your car fixed equates feeling free and independent. I don’t know your living situation, or why you need a car - but I do know that feeling free and independent is most definitely a state of mind and not something material goods can provide.
Having a functioning car gives you the APPEARANCE of increased freedom and independence of mobility, yet that is only an APPEARANCE.
Why do you need a car? Where do you need to go? What do you need to use it for? Is there any other way you can accomplish those things without a car?
In fact, believing you NEED your own car to accomplish those things actually RESTRICTS your freedom and independence. Imagine if you were able to do whatever it is you desire to do with the car without all the hassles and expenses of owning and running a car.
I invite you to enter in the realm of IMAGINING other ways you can accomplish those things, and you can even go beyond that and IMAGINE not NEEDING to do those things.
It sounds to me as if NEEDING a car RESTRICTS your freedom, rather than having a car GIVES you freedom.
Now - I may be totally off the mark with this one. I am actually currently considering changing my residence to a location where owning a car would APPARENTLY make things easier. I am not in your situation so I can’t make any TRUE assessment of your needs. All I can do is invite you to THINK about your NEEDS in a different way.
One of the Life Labs in the Course for Practical Geniuses invites us to imagine six impossible things before breakfast each morning. Perhaps if you apply this exercise to your current situation you will gain some MENTAL FREEDOM and some MENTAL INDEPENDENCE. Perhaps the exercise will direct your thinking away from NEEDING A CAR to feel FREE AND INDEPENDENT and show you something different.
Try it.
I also encourage you to do the Course for Practical Geniuses if you have not already done so. If you have done it, do it again. I am just doing it for the second time and my mind is being blown apart by both the manifestations and the possibilities - but more than anything - by the INCREASED SENSE OF FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE I have. One way to gain freedom is by gaining choice. Recognizing that you have CHOICE opens your mind to unlimited possibilities. It is when you think that you have NO OTHER CHOICE or you say to yourself: “What other choice do I have?” and you feel compelled to do something because you feel you have no other choice that you start to feel you have no freedom.
Do you get it?
