Electronic Shimmer

Thursday 2nd March 2006 - 1:19:49 AM

Jasch gave me a copy of his CD after his performance last Thursday at Trafo, and I finally got a chance to listen to it Sunday morning at about 4:00 am. It was the perfect background music for a late-night/early-morning talk with one of the other workshop participants. With the exception of some helicopter, or muffled jackhammer-like sounds that turn up, most noticeably in morphogenesis and illicit ripple it provides a dreamscape that seeps into my psyche and transports me to an altered dimension. This affect deepens with repeated listenings.

Most of the individual sounds defy labels, though there are suggestions of mechanics (elevators, helicopters, trains, transport trucks) nature (bats, grasshoppers and buzzing insects) and various bells and gongs. It is musical although there is no melody or rhythm. `

Mesmerizing and highly seductive, just like his images. Or course, it’s all a matter of perception which can be greatly influenced by mood. Next week I may be into something completely different.
