Appearances and Our State of Mind
Another of my musings from Rebecca Fine’s forum; this one about how APPEARANCES influence (or not) our state of mind. Taken out of context it’s very incomplete. The idea is - of course - to provoke you to visit the website. And yes, if you buy something I get a kickback.

Hi Phil,… To quote your post,”To have money you need to emotionally associate yourself with the ‘other end of the stick.’ You have to emotionally begin to feel what it’s like to HAVE the money you want”, this is not easy for me, how can I “emotionally begin to feel what it’s like to HAVE the money you want” when I don’t have it?
Lesley.Lesley, I know you have worked out your own way of approaching SOGR, and I know you are quoting Phil and answering him, however, the idea is NOT to emotionally feel what it is like to have the money you want, the idea is create the feelings associated with the things you want that you believe the money will buy you.
So, the first thing you do is create a clear mental image of the things you want; then you imagine yourself having those things. If you want money purely for the sake of money - then you are not in keeping with SOGR principles.
You have to go deeper than the money. You have to dig to the bottom of that pile of money you want and see what’s hidden inside. Is it security?
A new house?
A new car?
Freedom?
Travel?
To help your children? your parents? your grandchildren?
To be philanthropic?
To have power?
To feel sexy? What is it you want that you believe the money will give you? Please note I use the word ‘give’ here and not ‘buy’. Because the money will buy objects and things. But the feelings inside owning those objects and the more ephemeral things like Freedom, Power, Helping Others, Philanthropy etc. - those are things that perhaps you believe come from the money, when in reality they come from your state of mind. That’s why we say, get into the state of mind you imagine yourself having with the money and the money will more naturally flow to you.
My question to you Lesley, is what is it you want? What is missing from your life that you believe money will give you? If it is a new house, get yourself inside a new house, go and visit a new house and experience what it feels like to be inside it. Maybe you don’t need a new house, maybe what you really need is a new state of mind.
…and no, the new house does not provide the new state of mind…the state of mind is an independent entity.
Many who have not practiced these principles and really gotten inside them may argue with me and say their living environment influences their state of mind. I will agree with you - yes, it’s APPARENTLY easier to live in a nice house with all the comforts than it is to live in a dump.
It’s easier to do the laundry with a new washing machine, it’s easier to cook with a state of the art kitchen - but if you hate doing the laundry and cooking, no amount of money will change that - you’ll just have to send the laundry out and hire a chef. And when you do that, well, you’ll just find something else to hate doing - until you figure out that it’s not the activity you hate, it’s your state of mind.So in the end, regardless of how beautiful and luxurious your physical life may APPEAR to be, APPEARANCES will not change your state of mind. APPEARANCES may give you the impetus to change your state of mind, but only YOU working from within yourself can change your state of mind.
My ramble for the day.
(When I say ‘you’ I mean me and everybody reading this forum, not just you Lesly! I need to work at this just as much as the next person, I just happen to enjoy writing my thoughts on the subject and it’s also my way of giving - to Rebecca as a way of saying thank you for the fantastic course, and also to the universe and all the wonderful minds that make it what it is!
