Off Festival: Free Jazz Concert

Friday 14th October 2005 - 3:19:01 PM

It’s worth noting that there is an off-festival in the ELMŰ Rt building at 21 Kazinczy, 1075 Bp which has just been reopened after being closed for 60 plus years! They have a variety of activities going on every day, including film screenings, and every evening starting at 10:00pm there are concerts. As far as I can make out, these are free.

Tonight Gábor Juhász Trió is performing. Gábor is a great jazz guitarist and is well known for his work with Elemer Balasz. This is a new trio that he has put together and I am eager to hear them. His guitar has inspired some of the most beautiful poetry I’ve written here in Hungary. Private Little Gold Mine is one poem from that collection. I plan to go over to that concert after the show finishes at Mafilm.

Good thing I use a bicycle, I can get around much faster than with public transport.

It was great to hear Gabor’s guitar last night. Unfortunatley I only got to listen to a couple of songs. I wasn’t expecting to see Peter Finch and Kalman Fargo there, or encounter that sound and media workshop. Suffice to say, Gabor’s new trio sounds good and the bass player - who played a solo while was listening - sounded really good. My only complaint - the acoustics in the venue were among the worst I’ve encountered anywhere, and the bass was not amplified!
