Being who we are…

Saturday 8th October 2005 - 4:30:10 PM

…regardless of age and circumstances.

I opened a new category today, and simply called it Being.

I pondered what to call this category, inspired by 101 year old artist Tamás Lossonczy.

After I wrote about him, I thought about my Mother, another amazing artist - who in her forties joined an amateur theater group and at the age of 76 (or seventy-something - she always corrects me) got her professional actor’s union card!

Her motto: Do as much as you can as long as you can.

Then someone told me about a blind writer who attends writer’s conferences.

…and I realised I need a category to talk about these people.

I thought about calling it Golden Age Artists, or Growing Old Gracefully (ee gads, how boring can you get?), or Staying Young (another cliche), or Youth and Age (still talking about ‘youth’ next to ‘age’ as if youth is the be all and end all of life. What a media created lie that is!)

Also, tying the posts exclusively to people who have been on the planet longer than others, elliminates the younger people who come up against incredible challenges and keep going; people like Pop Ivan’s trumpeter Horváth László.

So I thought about what all these people have in common and I realised it is simply “Being…who they are regardless of age or circumstances.”

So here we are folks, a new category. If you know any people who simply ARE please tell us about them. They are an inspiration.
